YouTube V.S. Podcasting – Which is better?

Two things I utilize every day are YouTube and Podcasting! Both platforms offer unique advantages and appeal to different types of audiences. I want to explore the benefits of both YouTube and Podcasting to help you decide which platform is better for your needs.

YouTube:

YouTube has over 2 billion monthly active users, and it is the second most popular search engine after Google, making it an ideal platform for businesses and individuals looking to expand their reach. I use it more than Google as I try DIY projects around the house. I need all the help I can get.

Here are some of the benefits of using YouTube:

  1. Visual content: YouTube allows creators to showcase their content in a visual format. This means that viewers can see and experience what you are talking about, making it an ideal platform for tutorials, reviews, and demonstrations. It’s important for your fans and followers to see your face AND hear your voice!
  2. SEO benefits: YouTube videos are easily discoverable through Google search, which means that creating content on this platform can help you reach a larger audience. In addition, YouTube has a built-in algorithm that recommends related videos to viewers, increasing the chances of your content being discovered.
  3. Monetization: YouTube allows creators to monetize their content through ads, sponsorships, and merchandise sales. There are requirements that need to be met before you can start earning money, but it’s good to know that this is an option.

Podcasting:

Podcasting is my passion and my purpose! There are over 2 million active podcasts and over 48 million weekly listeners in the US alone, podcasting has become a popular platform for people looking to consume content while on the move. Notice the size difference between Podcasting and YouTube? It’s MASSIVE! There is so much growth potential in podcasting! I mean, this is like joining a start-up in the early days and getting paid dividends down the road!

Here are some benefits of using podcasting:

  1. Convenience: Podcasts are easy to consume while on the go, making them an ideal platform for people with busy lifestyles. Listeners can listen to podcasts while commuting, exercising, or doing other tasks, making it a highly convenient platform.
  2. Niche audience: Podcasting allows you to reach a specific niche audience, making it ideal for businesses and individuals looking to target a specific market. You can create content that is tailored to the interests of your target audience, making it more engaging and relevant.
  3. Personal connection: Podcasting allows creators to establish a personal connection with their audience AND their guests. Listeners get to hear the voice of the creator and sit in on an intimate conversation between host and guest, which helps to build trust and connection with the audience. Some of my best friends have been created due to having them on my show!

Which is better?

Choosing between YouTube and podcasting depends on your personal preferences, goals, and target audience. If you are looking to create visual content and reach a broader audience, YouTube may be the better platform for you. On the other hand, if you are looking to establish a personal connection with a specific niche audience, podcasting may be the better platform for you.

Ultimately, the decision between YouTube and podcasting comes down to your content goals, resources, and target audience. Both platforms offer unique benefits and can be highly effective in reaching your content goals. Consider the pros and cons of each platform and choose the one that best fits your needs.

I use both because I believe in getting my show out to as many people as possible.
