5 Tips To Help You Be A Happier Person

The question a lot of people ask is “How can I be happier?”

Happiness is subjective and can be influenced by a variety of factors such as our environment, relationships, and mindset. While some people may seem to have a natural predisposition to happiness, research shows that there are practical steps that anyone can take to increase their overall level of happiness.

I was not happy for many years, especially in my teens and early 20s. It wasn’t until I realized that my past and other people’s opinions of me, don’t define my future that I started on the right path.

Here are some of the ways I became and stay happy.

  1. Cultivate Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful emotion that can have a profound impact on our happiness. Practicing gratitude involves acknowledging and appreciating the good things in our lives, no matter how small they may seem. Research has shown that people who regularly practice gratitude experience higher levels of positive emotions feel more alive, and sleep better. Try to make a habit of writing down three things you’re grateful for each day when you wake up and reflect on those things throughout the day.

  1. Build Meaningful Relationships

Humans are social creatures, and our relationships with others play a critical role in our overall well-being. Building and maintaining positive relationships can help us feel more connected, valued, and supported. Whether it’s with friends, family, or a significant other, investing time and energy into building meaningful relationships can be incredibly rewarding. If you want to grow in relationships, get out of your comfort zone and surround yourself with people that are living the life you want to live.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment and non-judgmentally observing one’s thoughts and emotions. When we’re mindful, we’re more able to appreciate the present moment and experience life more fully. Research has shown that mindfulness can reduce stress, improve mood, and increase overall well-being. Try setting aside a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness through meditation or simply by focusing on your breath. Be present with everything you do. When you are with family and friends, turn off the phone. Be present in that moment.

  1. Engage in Activities That Bring You Joy

Engaging in activities that bring us joy can be an effective way to boost our mood and overall happiness. Whether it’s a hobby, a sport, or simply spending time in nature, finding time to do things we enjoy can help us feel more fulfilled and satisfied. Make a conscious effort to prioritize activities that bring you joy and incorporate them into your daily routine. I love podcasting and networking so any chance I get to speak to someone on my show or meet someone new, that is what brings me joy.

  1. Practice Self-Care

Taking care of ourselves both physically and mentally is essential for our overall well-being. Practicing self-care can involve a variety of activities, such as getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and setting aside time to relax and recharge. When we take care of ourselves, we’re better equipped to handle life’s challenges and experience greater happiness.

Look, happiness is a complex and multi-faceted experience that can be influenced by a range of factors. By cultivating gratitude, building meaningful relationships, practicing mindfulness, engaging in activities that bring us joy, and practicing self-care, we can increase our overall level of happiness and lead more fulfilling lives. Remember, happiness is a journey, not a destination, so take the time to enjoy the process and find what works for you.
